DIG Magazine Says: Do Derby This Summer

Okay, so maybe DIG Magazine didn’t say it exactly the way we put it in the title of this entry, but! they did include your local Red Stick Roller Derby league on their list of 30 ways to enjoy summer in Baton Rouge titled Here Comes the Sun.

Here’s what they had to say about dear old RSRD:

Villainelle Takes her “Pop Quiz”

The Advocate‘s “Pop Quiz” column contacted Capital Defender Villainelle to ask her a few questions.  Among them was “What makes roller derby fun?”  The answer can be found below, or you can head over to The Advocate itself to read it.

See Villainelle and the rest of your Red Stick Roller Derby Capital Defenders play this Saturday, when they take on Jacksonville, TX’s East Texas Bombers at Leo’s Rollerland.  Doors open at 6PM, bout starts at 7PM.  Tickets are just $8 for general admission and $6 for students and are available at BrownPaperTickets.com or at the door.

‘Baton Rouge Parents’ Mentions RSRD

Long-running local periodical, Baton Rouge Parents Magazine gave your roller derby league a shoutout in May’s issue.  They included a photo of  Jewels Burn and Legs, and encouraged their readers to attend May 18th’s Heroes On The Flat Track, the photo of which you can see for yourself above.  Parents has been extremely kind to RSRD in the past, having written a piece on the mothers that were in the league.  We salute you, Parents for being like… like… like a parent to us and offering your support.  Thank you!

You can pick up your copy of this issue, and every issue thereafter, at the places listed on their website.

RSRD Lets the Good Times Roll Daily

Red Stick Roller Derby is known for their rolling on the track, but on Tuesday, May 7th we were known for rolling with the good times, or, more specifically,  Caroline Barry‘s Les Bon Temps Rouler Daily, which is, as she describes it,  “[a] daily compilation of local happenings in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana.”

Caroline featured our article on our Girls on the Run volunteering efforts under the Les Bon Temps Rouler section of #GOBR.  You can see a screencap of the mention after the jump below!

Many thanks to Ms. Barry for including us in the mix.

RSRD’s On the Gulf Coast, Thus Qualifying Us For The Gulf Coast Events

As you may have figured out from the headline of this article, Red Stick Roller Derby is headquartered in Baton Rouge, LA, which just so happens to be on the Gulf Coast.  This little bit of geography, incidentally, qualifies the league to get a mention on the Gulf Coast Events, which happened Sunday evening, linking to our entry about Red Stick’s visit to Houston’s “Day of Derby!” on Saturday in their Sports section.  You can see it in the screen capture after the jump below.

The fine folks over at GCE have been very kind to your friendly neighborhood roller derby league, so, as a favor to us, go give them a follow over on their Twitter page.
